Beauty Confidential with Safia Michelle

gucci spring 2011

Summer is BRIGHT around the corner, time to turn up the HAUTE with a clean beauty look and vibrant lip! Get cues on hues from Gucci, YSL, and Marc Jacobs…

Begin with a fresh new foundation! Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer is perfect.  No more heavy winter cremes and you won’t need additional moisturizer because its built in. Ha! The finish is consistent, light and breathable so your skin has a smooth, even coverage just where you need it.

Next add a little bronzer such as Lancome’s Poudre Sôleil. I love how it instantly gives fashionistas a beautiful sun kissed tan. It’s a warm golden brown with just enough red tone, infused so that you don’t look like an orange mess. More like Gorgeous!

Statement Lips are IN from an electric mix of blood orange, purple and tomato to haute pink! Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Volupté lipstick in No. 15 is a bold orange hue that adds rich color, a bit of shine, and looks super sexy. You’ll have a cute pout that’s all your own!

Don’t forget mascara…and lots of it. Try Clinique’s new “Bottom Lash Mascara”.  Its full of volume and that’s where it’s at! I believe it’s time for less eye shadow and more eyes so define what you already have. Its great for the little hairs that you can hardly see; one coat of this mascara and WOW lashes POP!

Lucious Lashes in a blink!

fast_lash

Desire the look of lucious false lashes without the hassle or time comittment of application?

Fast Lash is a dry, white polyester fiber that adheres to wet mascara and builds length to the lash. When you coat the Fast Lash with a second application of mascara, the difference is ridiculously dramatic. Try it!

Beauty Feature: Topshop Takeover

Heyyyyyyyy babbbbyyyyyyyysssssssssssssssssssssss

My GOSH how I have missed you and your whole lives! A lot has been going on, fashion and otherwise during the time that I last posted.

Anyway as I said, a whole load of stuff has happened so I have loads to share…..

So TOPSHOP! TOPSHOP!!!! TOPSHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am such a big fan of Topshop and must admit that when the store in New York opened i was most distressed! I mean its OURS!!! UK born and bred!!! …BUT now I’m over it!!!! At one point I went through a stage where I wasn’t too into it! But now our love has been rekindled and I can not resist the place! As we all know they always manage to transcend looks from the catwalk into their pieces, making them accessible to those of us who’s bank balances don’t always permit us to have these delightful pieces… (don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about!!! lol)

Topshop does EVERYTHING!

Clothes, shoes, lingerie, nightwear, sweets, jewelery, handbags, sunglasses…you name it they have it! So I guess it is no surprise that they have launched their very own make up line, and it’s fair to say that it is one of the biggest beauty launches of the year so far!

By now you should know what I’m like, can’t resist anything new and exciting and since it has Topshop’s name on it, it’s fair to say that I was a little more than intrigued about the new line and majorly eager to check out the range!

About the range, which launched 5th May 2010, Topshop says: “We wanted to create products that were unlike anything else on the market- products that we would want to buy- products made purely and entirely for the Topshop girl.”

The range was started by focusing on the bare essentials that its creators say are major players and must haves in their own make up bags. A core range of bronzers (and lord knows I love a bronzer) skin tints and glows make up this range whilst the collection named the trend collection is more fun and follows the trends of the current season in beauty! The limited edition collection comes to us every three months! Festivals played a major part in the creation of the line and the products are fashionable and fun…totally fitting with the Topshop brand :)

I checked out the line with my super duper talented MUA friend Vee! As we expected everything was funky looking and had an ”I don’t care, but still look good” attitude! True Topshop Style! There were soooooo many products…glosses, shadows, liners, mascaras, lippys, varnishes, bronzers, primers…you name it they have it!!!

Obviously Vee got stuck right in with the lipglosses. She liked it “glossy but not sticky!” were her words! It looked really good kinda like Mac’s Lipglass range *swoon*

We didn’t try out everything, but we did have a go at the eyeshadows and I must admit, I was a little disappointed. The quality wasn’t what I would have wanted it to be, and that’s probably because I am a Mac girl through and through. Vee explained that the shadows were not highly pigmented which means it tends to come out more sheer when applied, rather than one that is more highly pigmented coming out strong in color! (you learn something new everyday)

I think I will personally stop at varnises, balms and lipglosses (and maybe the odd blush if the shade is cue enough) when it comes to the Topshop makeup beauty range. I don’t wear much make up but when it comes to concealers etc, I think I’m going to stick to my trusted friends over at Mac. They have never failed me, so I’ll stick with what I know! However, I’m not knocking the Topshop range AT ALL….

Overall the general consensus around the line from the little I experienced is that it is fun, easy to apply and affordable for girls who’s pocket money is their only source of income! And that’s not a bad thing at all….because of this, it gets a thumbs up from me!

Mac give me Liberty of London

Liberty of London is killing it at the moment!!!!!

A couple of days ago I blogged about the stores collaboration with shoe designer Manolo Blahnik, scheduled for this Christmas. Now I see that they have worked with MAC cosmetics to release a limited edition collection…DEAD SERIOUS!!!!!

Bright spring shades and adorable spring feel packaging are just in time and in keeping with the current (or hopefully soon to arrive in the UK) season. Looks like they have a bit of everything too… Nail varnishes (Blue India is cute), glosses & lippy’s (Peachstock is gorge), shadow’s, blushes and even make up bags and scarf’s.

Love what Liberty of London is doing right now! Legend!!! Definitely a collection that is a must have for your make up bag, even if it’s just for how it looks!

Spring Skin Saver

Can you say SKIN!

For me skin is definitely top of the list for beauty this spring. My notion is, what’s the point in putting make up on bad skin? Start with your canvas girls (and guys for that matter)

The reason for this rant is that recently the elements wreaked absolute HAVOC on my poor skin. I don’t know how yours held up but mine didn’t cope well at all. It was bad and I mean real bad :( and the products that saved my life (and face) were from the Dermalogica skin care range. I can’t recommend it enough!

I had always known how good the product was. My Mama uses it and when I lived at home I’d try out the new bits she bought. I have now seen sense and been reunited with the skin saver.

I start with the skin prep scrub, which is a really good exfolient, three time a week. Following this I use the special cleansing gel and once thats all rinsed off I spray on the multi-active toner… and BANG! T.D.F skin!! If you are unsure of whether this is the right product for you it comes in a mini size so you can test it out for around £20. The range has something for everyone!!

Obviously there were other elements that contributed to the re-establishment of my skin, like eating well and drinking 2 liters of water a day (at least). Despite bathroom breaks every two seconds, it was worth it.

You can check out Dermalogica’s complete range of products on their website
