Controversy over French Vogue’s 10 Year Old Cover Model

thylane-lena-rose

A storm of controversy has irrupted over the images of ten year old French model, Thylane Lena Rose Blondeau; daughter of Véronika Loubry (actress and television presenter) and Patrick Blondeau (French international soccer player). Thylane has appeared in several editorials and landed the cover of Vogue Enfant.

Véronika has responded to numerous critics who have blasted her for allowing her daughter to be photographed in this light, “Thylanne doesn’t know about the buzz and I want to protect her from the deepest of my heart . . . she’s so young.” She stated to a blogger, “My daughter isn’t even naked, no need to blow this out of proportion.” Some say that Thylane is being sexualized!

Miu Miu Debuts Muta, Hollywood Style

miu miu

One haute summer night! Held outdoors in the Hollywood hills inside the former home of Vincent Chase (on Entourage), the fashion party scene was filled with beautiful models wearing Miu Miu sunglasses with celebrity guests including David LaChapelle, Cat Deeley, Paula Patton, Leslie Bibb, Malin Akerman, and Hailee Steinfeld (the new face of Miu Miu, and star of True Grit), teenage blogger Tavi Gevinson, and many more.

The antique cars and film cameras on display were a pretty nice touch as well. The highlight of the evening was the screening of filmmaker Lucrecia Martel‘s short film, Muta which is a contemporary noir clip that explores the lead character’s love affair with….drumroll please….Miu Miu of course….

The ASOS BOOM!!!

49_coverV2.indd

Zoe Kravitz covers this months edition of ASOS magazine

Despite claims of a decrease in sales on the UK high street and an evident struggle to bounce back from a recession that hit fashion lovers hard, it seems that one retail brand is lapping it all up. The increasingly popular online shopping store (and one of my personal favourites) ASOS has, today announced a rise in their annual revenue, which, at the end of March this year was up by a staggering 52% to £339.7m. Massive boosts in international sales were a contributing factor to this figure with these particular figures rising by an amazing 142%.  The company’s launch in the USA, France and Germany obviously played a major part in this and there are reports that the company are planning to launch in another three countries within this financial year. The company are said to be on track for their prediction of hitting £1bn by 2015.

Yay for ASOS!!

Karl Lagerfeld’s Take on Royal Wedding

karl_lagerfeld_photo

Besides the vows, the royal wedding was all about the fashion and who better to comment than fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld. French national television asked Lagerfeld to spend the morning in studio to give his views on the gowns, the hats and the suits. To celebrate the event, he added a nice touch to his uniform with a crown on his black tie.

He described Kate’s dress as “a bridal gown of very refined detail, much more refined than the one Diana wore. Alexander McQueen’s dresses are always very elegant. It’s very pretty, and relatively classic, but that goes with the decor, with a little touch of the 1950s that recalls Marilyn Monroe or Queen Elizabeth II’s dress. The lace is pretty, especially the embroidered veil and the tiara not too high, without too heavy a bun. It’s ravishing and the length of the train is perfect. It’s all elegant and chic — you don’t need to be born a royal princess to be like that. Kate is a young, modern woman. She’s a Lindsay Lohan and she wasn’t going to miss her moment”.

Princess Beatrice, however, did not go unscathed. ”Where did she find that hat, in a bin? It’s atrocious. There’s a word for those two sisters, but I’m not going to say it.”

Other ruthless comments about different guests included “Why, it’s the headless woman” and ”She’s wearing a sofa on her back!”

His new idols are apparently Carole and Pippa Middleton whom he found “sexy but not vulgar”.

On the Duke of Edinburgh, “Whatever you say, it’s better than an ugly suit”.

The wedding as a whole he described as a “magnificent and magical spectacle”.

A REAL Royal Affair

Royal-Wedding-2011-Prince-William-And-Kate-Middleton-Say-i-Will-At-Westminster-Abbey

I have been up since about 7:30am this morning… an early start to watch one of the most anticipated events of the century so far. The royal wedding! I’ve not long finished watching it and I must admit I spent the majority of the ceremony crying!!! It was so romantic. A 21st century Royal wedding and there was lots to see style wise…

Obviously the question on everybody’s lips has been “what is Kate going to wear, who is making the dress?” You can imagine my delight when I see ‘Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge‘ stepping out into the public to reveal what has become known as THE DRESS. The perfect mix of hand made Hampton court lace and silk, the ivory embroidered dress is breathtaking. The high neck line with and long sleeves complimenting Kate’s streamline physique. THEN they tell me that it was made by none other than  Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueencue my screams of delight… and then MORE tears! I was ecstatic and I don’t think Kate could have chosen a better designer or house to make a dress that is going to go down in history and that really symbolizes British fashion. With its stunning resemblance to Grace Kelly’s wedding dress the piece really is fit for a future Queen. Elegant, regal, beautiful the dress suited Kate completely. She has the perfect stature and grace to carry off such an amazing and no doubt soon to be iconic piece.

North London designer Sarah Burton says creating the piece was an “incredible honor.”

Just paused to watch the royal couple leave Buckingham palace in a blue Aston Martin -  Class!!

Kate’s sister Pippa, also in Alexander McQueen, looked an absolute vision! And I’ve already heard from friends and seen a few posts on Facebook and twitter indicating that a few would be brides would happily wear Pippa’s dress down the aisle for their own special day… for the understated bride I see no reason why not. I love the fish tail hem and the structure and cut of the dress is stunning something McQueen is renowned for and, like Kate’s, the dress is classic and timeless. The scoop detail of the neck as well as the embroidery also featured on the cuff of the sleeve was a compliment to the brides dress although not taking any focus away from the woman of the day.

It was all so incredibly romantic, Kate in her amazing dress by a British design legend and Will’s all suited and booted in his uniform, red jacket a blaze, you really can’t blame me for the tears.

And what’s a wedding without fabulous wedding guests?? A few guests have been the talk of social networking sites so far throughout the day and here are a few of my faves and a few who seemed to be pushing the Royal boundaries!!

William’s Cousin Zara Phillip in Metallic and Black…love the Hat/Fascinator

Tara Palmer Tomkinson surely stands out in her choice of head to toe Cobalt blue and eye catching Fascinator

Princess’ Eugenie and Beatrice fascinators adorning both heads… Beatrice is definitely pushing a few boundaries with that one although I wish she had ditched those shoes and opted for the nude Christian Louboutin Mary Jane, the “Lady Daf.” Her sister, although pushing the boundaries slightly, plays it a little safe.

A very pregnant Victoria Beckham SLAYS in a midnight blue boat neck tunic teamed with a Phillip Treacy hat and where would a girl be without her trusted pair of Christian Louboutins. She’s always a good representation of British fashion. Loving the ponytail and the dramatic smoky eye and the accessory on her arm isn’t half bad either! (Love me some DAVID, and he looks to die for as usual)

Needless to say I have an amazing day watching all the footage from this historic day and it was well worth the wait and anticipation to see how everyone would turn up!! Watching Will and Kate today proved that love in the Royal family really does exist. We all stereotype the Royals to be quite cold and unemotional but it was great and I think quite important to see that they feel too, and as seen today, this new generation of Royals are not scared to show their affection for one another. It was an absolute joy to witness and be part of such a momentous day. Here’s wishing William and Kate a very happy, prosperous and successful marriage.

What’s the Skinny on Lagerfeld & Diet Coke?

karl lagerfeld-coca-cola

Uncle Karl designs another fab set of limited edition bottles for Diet Coke. Apparently the Kaiser lost all that weight (90 lbs to be exact) by drinking nothing but diet coke and eating steamed veggies. He is even rumored to have his own private “Diet Coke” butler. If that is true, then *Rolls Eyes* (lol) The well-known Cola brand clearly has a soft spot for fashion and has launched “design” collaborations with Matthew Williamson, Gianfranco Ferre, Marni and Roberto Cavalli in the past.

The ‘Diet Coke Limited Edition Collection by Karl Lagerfeld‘ bottles (nicknamed “Love It Light”) will feature his signature ponytailed silhouette and will sell individually and as a set in a prism-shaped Collector’s Box. Available in June! Stay fashionably tuned…

Denis Gagnon: Curated Couture Exhibition

denis-gagnon-for-bedo

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is currently exhibiting, “Denis Gagnon Shows All,” an installation curated by Stéphane Aquin, until February 13, 2011. The exhibit which features the work of Quebec couturier Denis Gagnon, is free of charge and set in a visual design by well-known architect Gilles Saucier; who has managed to transform the museum into a “meeting place for fashion and architecture….Fashion is thought of as fleeting, at the mercy of the mood of the times and made of perishable materials. Architecture is monumental, designed to last for centuries. And yet what the two have in common is the fundamental function of sheltering the human body.”

On the walls, photographs show the raw materials used such as lace and leather, while videos feature the clothes in action on the runways and in the street.  Montreal photographer and filmmaker Martin Laporte designed the audiovisual elements of the exhibition. How fab!

For those of you who cannot attend, Urbania Magazine is publishing a special issue devoted to Denis Gagnon, as they sponsored his 2011 collection runway show.  If you can attend, please be sure to come back and share your experience:
